CHGJ James Pulsipher Regional Cancer Center and Monument View Medical Plaza
Grand Junction, Colorado
This project represents the third major phase of the original master plan for this greenfield campus. It adds 125,000 s.f. to the existing 140,000 s.f. hospital with a new combined inpatient and outpatient wing connected to the original hospital at all four levels. The expansion allows for the hospital to increase its bed capacity from 60 to 96-beds by shifting inpatient lab and pharmacy from the original patient bed tower to a lower floor space within the addition, and by adding a new 24-bed med surg unit on the fourth floor of the new building.
In addition to expanding bed capacity, the project also creates a premier full-service cancer care destination to better serve patients on the Western Slope. The new facility allows the hospital to significantly enhance its current oncology program by adding a new 16,000 s.f. radiation oncology suite with HDR and two linear accelerators, and a new 19,000 s.f. medical oncology suite with 24 infusion bays.
The addition also includes an expanded CUP, a new café and food service area to supplement existing services, and additional physician practice space which allows Community Hospital to expand its cardiology, pulmonology, and OB programs. The key goals of the project were to ensure seamless operation during the construction phase and to put the pieces in place for the next phases of expansion, including westward expansion of the existing bed tower. The addition creates a strong presence on the campus that not only ties into the existing architecture but also gives prominence to the cancer center.
