Good Samaritan Society Cedar Lake Village Assisted Living
Olathe, Kansas
Cedar Lake Village is part of a full-service senior living and healthcare campus and has assisted living and independent living components connected by a common lobby with amenity spaces. This project added a 24-resident memory care assisted living home, added a new community chapel and multi-purpose space, and expanded the central kitchen. The memory care home has two 12-resident households–The Azalea House and the Briar House–with a shared courtyard. Both are connected to common spaces including a memory care chapel and multi-purpose space, salon, spa, and ice cream parlor. Each household features a residential-style kitchen, dining area, living area, four-seasons room, and flexible activity stations.
Thoughtful design elements were incorporated to give residents a comfortable and familiar environment reminiscent of their past, allowing them to experience life in a safe but energizing home. The Memory Courtyard includes raised garden beds, a picnic shelter, a putting green, a Zen garden, and a modified 1968 Ford pickup truck, complete with a functional work cabinet and tools. Inside, residents have memory boxes by their residences and display walls inside to improve wayfinding and encourage personalization. Generous windows in all directions offer daylight and views.
