Meridian Pacifica Children’s Hospital Orange County Tenant Improvement
Walnut Creek, CA
The Meridian Pacifica CHOC TI project addresses the critical need for additional pediatric clinics in the Orange County area. The client, recognizing the importance of accessible healthcare, sought to expand their services to the surrounding communities by establishing a satellite clinic that would serve as an extension of their main facility.
The 5,000 s.f. clinic’s design incorporates distinct areas for both sick and well waiting and a series of exam rooms and staff spaces, with a dedicated treatment room designed for flexibility. The interior design is a testament to the clinic’s commitment to creating a welcoming environment, with the integration of CHOC’s new branding materials. The CHOCO bear, a central element of their brand, is featured prominently in wall graphics and signage, dictating architectural elements such as the rounded columns that echo the circular motif associated with the bear.
Innovation and Challenges
Throughout the project, innovative approaches were employed, including the design of a custom wall covering featuring the clinic’s logo, which required creative collaboration between the design team and the manufacturer to meet production and delivery timelines. The project team also faced challenges in optimizing the size of the exam rooms to maximize efficiency while accommodating the necessary number of rooms. This led to a comprehensive replanning during the Design Development (DD) phase.
Regulatory and Schedule Considerations
The project navigated through regulatory challenges, particularly with city approvals, and managed to expedite the demolition and construction phases by initiating demolition ahead of schedule. This proactive approach allowed for a swift transition to construction once plans were approved, adhering to the client’s desire for a rapid completion timeline.
