This 8,395 s.f. ground-up clinic marks a new flagship location in Reno for Planned Parenthood Mar Monte. While the client already has a downtown Reno location, this site in South Reno allows for an expanded footprint that accommodates a procedural center in addition to their clinical services.

Because this project was a ground-up build, the design team was able to adapt the facility to align with the client’s needs for patient and staff security, which often poses a challenge in existing buildings. The unique orientation of the building enabled the entrance to be positioned at the back of the parking lot, providing a privacy buffer for patients entering and exiting the building.

One of the design highlights of this location is the reception and waiting area, which the team honed through a series of design charrettes. The result is an expansive, brightly lit entrance that utilizes a translucent curtain wall to allow daylight to permeate the space while maintaining privacy for occupants. Wood alcove detailing around reception imbues the area with a sense of biophilic warmth and reinforces a sense of safety. This design element, among others, has been incorporated into the client’s brand standards and will be implemented in future facilities.
